Around Hear: Nine Shocks Terror Reunite

And more local music news

Nine Shocks Terror will reunite for a fundraiser for the family of Richard "Chard" McInall on Saturday, December 12, at Now That's Class (11213 Detroit Ave.). Chard, a founding member of the band, died in October. He was 40.

McInall's family came to Cleveland from Scotland when he was a teenager. He played in hardcore bands including Gag Reflex and the H-100s. He appeared on the first two 9ST singles and the Zen and the Art of Beating Your Ass album. The ace guitarist wrote some of the band's signature material, including "Get Hookers" and "Not a Fucking Anthem."

"Should be an all-time barn-burner," promises bassist Tony Erba. Cider, Short Dark Strangers and Space Dokkers open. Showtime is 9 p.m. All of the $10 cover goes to McInall's family for funeral expenses.

Blue Lunch will be the backing band for well-endowed blues diva Candye Kane at Fat Fish Blue (21 Prospect Ave. E.) Thursday, December 10. Kane and virtuoso guitarist Laura Chavez will join the band for standards and songs from Kane's latest CD, Superhero. Doors 8 p.m.; cover $8.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Kentucky Headhunters' debut album, Pickin' on Nashville, Mercury/UME has released Live/Agora Ballroom as part of the Official Bootleg series. Taped at the Cleveland club on May 13, 1990, it features nine of the 10 songs from the band's debut, plus five other tunes.

Disengage drummer Jon Morgan has joined Above This Fire. Free Times readers voted Morgan best drummer in 2007, and Scene readers named ATF as Best Hardcore Band in 2009. The group plays Now That's Class on Thursday, December 10, with This Is Hell, Heads Held High, Toon Squad and Shark Week. Doors at 10 p.m.

The Ryan Humbert Band will temporarily swell for a fundraiser concert, Strung Out for the Holidays, on Saturday, December 12, at the Akron Civic Theater (182 S. Main St.). Humbert will play original songs, holiday classics, and covers from the Beatles to Frank Sinatra with a 13-piece acoustic band that includes a string quartet, guest percussionist and backup singers. Proceeds from the two-and-a-half-hour show will benefit the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank. Doors 7 p.m.; tickets $15-20.
