At the Arthouse

Non-multiplex flick picks this week

Anyone who's had to sit in rush-hour traffic knows there's nothing more excruciating than the imperceptible crawl of a line of cars to someplace that suddenly seems like a thousand miles away. Jean-Luc Godard's 1967 apocalyptic parable throws a bickering couple into the middle of an endless traffic jam and lets the fun begin with accidents, murder, and even a revolution. It's all a metaphor for society's crumbling values and a dismaying look at hell on earth. It's at the Cinematheque at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, and 8:20 p.m. Sunday, April 22. — Michael Gallucci

Crazy Wisdom: The Life & Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Documentary about the guy who helped spread the word about Tibetan Buddhism in the West. Designer Helen Berliner, who knew Trungpa, will be on hand to answer your questions about him. Cleveland Museum of Art's Morley Lecture Hall. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25.

The Godfather: Part II

The second-best movie ever made returns to the big screen for one day. Cinemark Valley View. Friday, April 19.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

A look at an 85-year-old sushi maker who, presumably, thinks about his job even when he's sleeping. Cinematheque. At 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22.

Lancelot of the Lake

The Cinematheque's "Robert Bresson, Definitely" series continues with the French director's 1974 take on what happened to King Arthur's pals after they couldn't find the Holy Grail. Cinematheque. At 5:15 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

Les Dames du Bois de Boulogne

Another entry in the Cinematheque's "Robert Bresson, Definitely" series, this early film from 1945 is about a dude who thinks he's marrying a nice lady, but she turns out to be a real whore. Cinematheque. At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22.

Little Otik

One of Czech surrealist Jan Svankmajer's most bizarre films, a 2000 oddity about a couple that adopts a baby carved from a tree. Things only get weirder from there. Cinematheque. At 8:20 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and 8:45 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

Peter Greenaway's 2007 Rembrandt biopic plays at the art museum, which also happens to have a new exhibit by the painter. Go figure. Cleveland Museum of Art's Morley Lecture Hall. At 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 21.

The first of three Robert Bresson movies showing at the Cinematheque this week is one of his best: a 1959 film about an unemployed guy who resorts to a life of crime. Cinematheque. At 6:45 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and 9:35 p.m. Friday, April 20.

Rembrandt's J'Accuse

Peter Greenaway's documentary about the painting that inspired his movie Nightwatching (see above). Cleveland Museum of Art's Morley Lecture Hall. At 7 p.m. Friday, April 20, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22.

Saturday Night Fever

How deep is your love for Melt Bar & Grilled's Late Shift movie this week? Capitol Theatre. At midnight Saturday, April 21.
