American Teacher

This documentary about the United States' education system focuses on four teachers whose shared stories pretty much echo the sentiments of educators across the country. Matt Damon narrates, Dave Eggers is one of the producers, and it's based on a book written by former Sound of Ideas host Daniel Moulthrop. This screening also includes a panel discussion featuring educators and reformers. It all starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 5, at the Capitol Theatre. — Michael Gallucci

A woman likes sex. A lot. After a whole bunch of one-night stands, she falls into a sadomasochistic relationship with a moody actor. Cinematheque. At 9:30 p.m. Friday, September 30, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, October 1.

Love Crime

Kristin Scott Thomas and Ludivine Sagnier star in this new movie about a ruthless businesswoman and the new girl she picks on. Opens Friday at the Cedar Lee Theatre.

In anticipation of movie critic Jonathan Rosenbaum's appearance this week, the Cinematheque screens John Cassavetes' 1984 family drama, one of Rosenbaum's all-time faves. Cinematheque. At 9:25 p.m. Saturday, October 1, and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 2.

Repo Man

Warsaw Bridge

After revving up for movie critic Jonathan Rosenbaum's appearance all month, the man himself shows up to talk about one of his favorite movies: a 1990 film that threads together a series of artsy vignettes. Cinematheque. At 7 p.m. Monday, October 3.

World on a Wire
