Attell's It Like It Is

HBO vet sees a funny even in the gloomy slices of life.

The longer Dave Attell makes a living as a comedian, the more he looks for a joke in anything, including the sad stories. "I don't know if that's jaded. I think it's more being a bad person, and I'm a bad person," says Attell, who's in town for a one-nighter at the House of Blues. "The sicker the humor, the more I like it."A staple on Comedy Central and HBO, his latest boob-tube foray makes his point. He'll host a revamped version of the '70s talent-search groaner The Gong Show. "It's time to bring back an old classic," says Attell. "I'm looking for originality and balls over talent. If you juggle something, I'd rather it be cow shit." Attell takes the mic at 7:30 tonight at the House of Blues, 308 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $27.50 to $32.50. Call 216-523-2583 or visit
