In his book 33 Revolutions Per Minute: A History of Protest Songs From Billie Holiday to Green Day, Dorian Lynskey compiles a history of protest music embodied in 33 different songs that span seven decades and four continent He references classic tracks such as Billie Holiday’s “Strange Fruit,” Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young’s “Ohio” and Green Day’s “American Idiot.” The book examines how music "has engaged with racial unrest, nuclear paranoia, apartheid, war, poverty, and oppression." Tonight at 7 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library and Archives, Andy Leach, the Rock Hall’s Director of Library and Archives, will interview Lynksey and discuss the book. Audience members can then to participate in a Q&A session. Admission is free but reservations through the Rock Hall website are required. (Niesel)
