Beach Fossils

When: Mon., Sept. 29, 8:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $10 ADV, $12 DOS
Brooklyn-based indie rockers Beach Fossils manage to meld lo-fi minimalist with a dreamy, gritty sound. The tracks on Clash the Truth, their latest release, run a wide gamut and range from atmospheric to upbeat with Dustin Payseur’s trademark chill vocals. “Taking Off” and title track “Clash the Truth” confront past regrets and unfulfilling relationships amid upbeat, dream-pop guitars and enthusiastic drumming. For such heavy subject matter, Payseur’s voice is oddly unemotional, yet it works well. “Modern Holiday” and “Brighter” are ambient pieces that meander between the faster songs, yet everything is tied together in a reverie of indie rock nostalgia. This would be a great album to play on a road trip. (Trenholme)
