Bernie, Don't Lose That Number

Cleveland art
Top-notch Cleveland football has inspired Dana Depew to scout out the best art on his home turf for tonight's opening reception of Asterisk Gallery's 19 exhibit. While growing up on a Medina farm in the late '80s, he worshiped ex-Browns QB Bernie Kosar. "He was lanky and unorthodox, but he always got the job done," says Depew, the gallery's owner. "I even had his number tattooed on my left hand." For the show's fourth annual installment, 19 sculptors, painters, and mixed-media artists have been handpicked to display their works. And the number of exhibitors is no coincidence; it was Kosar's jersey number throughout his career. "The number 19 has a personal meaning to me," says Depew. "It is very exciting to see the end result." The exhibit runs from 6 to 10 tonight and by appointment afterward, through Saturday, August 2, at Asterisk Gallery, 2393 Professor Avenue in Tremont. Admission is free. Call 330-304-8528 or visit www.asteriskgallery.com.
