Best '80s Night for an '80s Child

Fridays at the Garage Bar

DJ Larry Szyms has been hosting '80s nights since the early days of 1990, at bars like Chamber, Peabody's, and Touch. But since 2004, Ohio City's Garage Bar has been the site of his Friday-night sessions, weekly parties that are heavy on danceable synth tracks by new-wave faves like Depeche Mode, Berlin, and Missing Persons. But what makes the party are sing-along classics that never get tired, from the Violent Femmes' "Add It Up" to Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me." Throw in a few deep cuts -- he was spinning Dramarama's "Anything, Anything" before everyone else put it in regular rotation -- and it's like the best night you (or your parents) had in 1986.
