The Stone Oven Bakery & Café

Casual but oh-so-urbane, the original Stone Oven location in Cleveland Heights is a neighborhood mainstay, where locals can grab an early-morning muffin, co-workers pause for a lunchtime sandwich, and homemakers head for loaves of freshly baked bread. Lest this sound a little too much like Panera, say, the difference is this: The Stone Oven is "mom-and-pop" all the way, owned by Clevelanders Tatyana Rehn and John Emerman since 1995. (They have since opened locations in the Galleria and at Eton-Chagrin.) Even when the Cleveland Heights café moves to more commodious digs down the street in the fall, the combination of local ownership, wholesome products, and strong coffee seems bound to keep the Stone Oven a hometown hot spot.
