Best Comeback

George Forbes

The comeback wasn't planned. At least Forbes won't concede that it was. But when the opportunity to reenter the firestorm of Cleveland politics arose, Forbes leaped back into the fray. He wouldn't let Mike White roll out the red carpet for the Klan. Instead, Forbes brought his legacy, as well as the weight of the NAACP chapter he leads, with him back into the spotlight. It was indeed a skillful comeback, well-timed and seemingly uncalculated. It was also brief -- the way all good comebacks are. He didn't give the public time to hate him. After the Klan packed up their hoods and went back to Indiana, Forbes retreated to his law practice to quietly soak up the benefits of being CME (Chief Mayoral Enemy).
