Best Contest for Budding

Marilyn Bianchi Kids'
Playwriting Festival

One of the big problems with being a kid is that you really don't have a voice that anyone hears. So how awesome would it be if you could make adults listen to you for an hour and a half? This dream comes true each year for students who win the Marilyn Bianchi Kids' Playwriting Festival. Sponsored and produced by Dobama Theatre for the past 25 years, the festival selects the best scripts from students in grades 1 through 12. Several of the plays are staged just as they were written, with full casts, costumes, and sets. These performances, offered free to the public, give young playwrights the heady experience of hearing an audience laugh and applaud their very personal visions. Face it -- there's no videogame or iPod that cool.
