Best Hot Dog/ Best Dinner Bargain/ Best Cheap Lunch

Happy Dog

For as long as people can remember, the building at the corner of West 58th Street and Detroit Avenue was a family friendly neighborhood restaurant. Sure, the name and concept have changed in recent years, but not the outcome. Happy Dog still is one of the most welcoming joints on the near west side, made all the more welcoming by its agreeable pricing structure. Where else can a frugal diner order a fat, all-beef weenie with unlimited toppings for just $5? Crispy tater tots, with their own litany of free toppings, are only $3. If that never-ending list of toppings leaves you like a deer in headlights, go with one of the suggested builds, creative concoctions tested by bona fide pros. Lunch, dinner, late-night snack: Happy Dog is home to some of the tastiest deals in town.
