Best Local Stage Production on a Small Budget

"The Dying Gaul" at Beck Center

This homoerotic parable, focusing on the damage inflicted by Hollywood's morally bankrupt power brokers, is another in a long line of Mamet-flavored battle cries from outraged intellectuals. Director Roger Truesdell created with austerity and aplomb a production that shined with malevolent fascination. Its taut 90 minutes took audiences on a Faustian sightseeing tour, as an idealistic young writer evolved into a supermonster.
