Hiring one guy won't fix The
Plain Dealer's sports page, but the swiping of former
Beacon Journal columnist Terry Pluto was a good start. The most prolific sports writer in Ohio, Pluto instantly added a dimension that was lacking in
PD sports, with a distinct voice and the credibility to tackle subjects lesser writers tend to steer clear of. His crisp writing, hard-earned reputation built from countless books (
False Start,
Loose Balls,
etc.), and long-standing relationship with Cleveland sports insiders make his columns must-reads.
