Music Saves

Even as indie music stores become an endangered species, Cleveland and Akron still have more than their share of good ones. But Music Saves has a couple legs up on them all. First and foremost, it's got location. Just down the street from the Beachland Ballroom, the Collinwood shop specializes in the kind of indie-rock the club regularly hosts — like White Rabbits, Dirty Projectors and the Antlers. So it's a perfect hang between sets, whether you're suddenly inspired to check out Yo La Tengo's back catalog or impulse-purchase some new vinyl or used CDs — all at prices competitive with big-box stores. Second, it's open late — until " 10-ish" Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, "11-ish" Fridays and Saturdays, and 6 p.m. Sundays. On a good weekend night, it's practically a rock clubhouse. The first Friday of every month in spring and summer is Alley Cat Friday, when music lovers are welcome to bring their own refreshments, hang out and soak in some tunes.
