Best Spot for Contemplation

Wade Park in University Circle

If the grassy expanse of Wade Oval is where University Circle goes to play, adjacent Wade Park is where it goes to ruminate. Designed in harmony with the art museum in 1927, the park rivals its beauty step for step, sprawling over 15 tree-lined acres, with Wade Lagoon at its south end and more than a dozen bronze sculptures dotting its pebbled walkway. Like the masterpieces housed next door, it is gilt-framed by four of Cleveland's most inspiring structures: the neoclassical facades of the art museum and Severance Hall, and the towering steeples of Epworth-Euclid United Methodist Church and the Pentecostal Church of Christ. Wade Park is where Case Western Reserve students retreat with their textbooks, where nearby hospital workers walk off their stress, and where brides and grooms find Cleveland's most picturesque setting for wedding photographs. It's where the rest of us tumble into silence and peace, whether we came looking for it or not. If you can't sort out your thoughts at Wade Park, you didn't bring any with you.
