The avenue's pleasantly hip vibe only intensifies when you step through the doors of Karen Small's sophisticated restaurant Flying Fig, where the deliciously earthy decor, fabulous foods, and weekend jazz and blues come together to create what feels like a little patch of Greenwich-Village-on-the-Lake. Small's gentle menu of world cuisine -- duck enchiladas, grilled long-bone pork chops with stir-fried garlic-and-ginger long beans, say, along with rustic homemade breads and luscious desserts -- changes seasonally, but always features fresh ingredients and profound flavors. Throw in an international wine list, a classy bar scene, and some of the best service in the city, and it's no wonder that, for at least a few hours, you feel like the King -- or Queen -- of Cool.
