Best SteakHouse

John Q's Steakhouse

A little bit worn and a trifle shabby, this labyrinthine Public Square steakhouse still boasts a broad-shouldered virility that recalls the heyday of downtown dining. Simply but adroitly prepared slabs of prime and choice Certified Angus Beef are the order of the day: items such as an imposing 28-ounce porterhouse; a 16-ounce New York strip, brushed with cognac-mustard sauce, dotted with cracked peppercorns, and attentively pan-fried; and a show-stopping 18-ounce bone-in rib steak -- are unspeakably lush, embarrassingly flavorful, and tender enough that they practically disintegrate beneath a stern glance. Maybe we don't have impressive nightlife in this town anymore, but John Q's proves Clevelanders still know how to dish out a fine piece of meat.
