Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: Rattle Them Bones 20th Anniversary Tour
When: Wed., Aug. 14, 8 p.m. 2013
Celebrating the achievement of 20 years of jazz and swing under their collective belt, the guys behind Big Bad Voodoo Daddy have hit the road to continue sharing the good times. Last year, the band dropped the upbeat-as-ever Rattle Them Bones, which accomplishes the interesting task of blending mid-20th-century swing with more contemporary pop sensibilities. Challenge: Cue up album opener “The Adventures Of...” and just try not to dance. Singer and bandleader Scotty Morris has an unrelenting ability to settle a groove and guide the music through various rhythms, across time and space. Going forward, the band will be wrapping up recording for a Christmas album, due out this holiday season. They’ve released several similar albums for yuletide past, and the band’s music always lends a jaunty tone to the rest of December’s cheer. (Eric Sandy)
