Billy D. Washington

When: Sat., July 6, 7 & 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $20
As a musician and comedian, Billy D. Washington is one of the most diverse acts to hit comedy clubs in years. He’s opened for soul legend Aretha Franklin and has been featured on the “Just For Laughs” comedy festival for his versatility and racial jokes. He created the S.E.L.L.O.U.T. Comedy Tour, which highlighted prominent black comedians with the goal of challenging racism in America one joke at a time. In his song “If I Was White” he jokingly sings from behind the piano keys about the racist tendencies that prevail in our society today. “If I was white/ and I got in a fight/ I wouldn’t be the first one to go to jail.” The piano playing covers up the awkward pauses between jokes, and he’s able to seamlessly switch between a stand-up act and song.
