Bizarre Ride II: The Pharcyde Live/J. Swift/L.A. Jay/Poetic Republic

When: Sun., Jan. 27 2013
Price: $20 ADV, $23 DOS
Back in the day, the Pharcyde was the L.A. hip-hop group that should have blown up into something big. Though the guys came straight out of South Central, they weren’t gangsta rappers. Rather, they had an old-school sound and had more in common with East Coast acts like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul than with Compton’s N.W.A. Their 1992 debut, Bizarre Ride II, actually made the charts and even went gold. But the group didn’t have another hit after that and it hasn’t released an album in nearly ten years. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album, founders Fatlip and Slimkid3 will perform the album in its entirety, and they have two of their former producers, J-Swift & L.A. Jay coming along for the wild ride. (Jeff Niesel)
