Blimey! It's Blazer!

A local band digs that British sound.

Just four months after playing its first live show, Blazer is rubbing elbows with intercontinental headliners. Last month, the quartet from Bay Village opened for ex-Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler at the Beachland. Tonight, it warms up the Agora for Britpoppers Hard-Fi. "It's shocking, in that it's happened so quickly," says Jay Glenn, the band's singer and keyboardist. "There's just something about the British sound that a lot of people grasp onto."

Glenn formed the group last spring with his guitar-playing brother Raymond, bassist Stephen Begala, and drummer Mikey Gould. He admits that their synth-heavy originals were inspired by a fondness for '80s new wave. "It's a morph of growing up in that era," says the 24-year-old Glenn. "And that's stuck with us."
