Blink-182

Sometimes it seems like the three guys in Blink-182 spend more time coming up with their album titles than they do with the actual contents of the albums. To date, they've released Enema of the State, The Enema Strikes Back, and now the new Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (they also once released an EP called "Dick Lips," before they decided to go the punny, relatively subtle route). The album titles are often more amusing than the California punk popsters' potty-mouthed, three-chord teenage musical therapy. Take Off Your Pants and Jacket isn't that despicable, and the album's single, "All the Small Things," is actually wonderful. As far as Green Day heirs go, Blink-182 has a pretty good time. Sure, there are songs like the minute-and-a-half unnamed bonus ode to Mother's Day, whose verses aggressively churn out a "Fuckin' and suckin' and touchin'" refrain, but there're also genuine in-love-with-youth tracks such as "The Rock Show," in which our hero finds romance at the Warped Tour. These twentysomethings are in touch with their inner 13-year-olds, which is one reason why Take Off Your Pants and Jacket debuted at the top of the charts and why they're headlining a summer shed tour. No word yet on whether the guys will be running around naked onstage or if a giant inflatable penis will be floating above them (two facets of last year's Mark, Tom, and Travis Show, which was documented on a quickie live disc last winter). Still, it's a safe bet that there'll be plenty of toilet humor. That's the least to be expected from guys who pay tribute to family values on a song titled "Happy Holidays, You Bastard," in which Grandpa eats seven hot dogs and proceeds to defecate in his pants.
