Blue Light Lime Concert Series Staff Pick

When: Thu., July 11, 5 p.m. 2013
Price: Free
Akron’s Mo’ Mojo has been around for 15 years and the band certainly knows how to throw a party. On 2011’s appropriately titled Finally!, it covers a couple of tracks by zydeco legend Boozoo Chavis and also offers up renditions of Prince’s “Kiss” and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love,” capping off the latter with a riff from the Meters’ classic “Cissy Strut.” The original songs on the disc maintain Finally!’s festive mood too. Singer Jen Maurer’s supple voice rivals her ear for melody, fueling the group’s infectious energy levels throughout. The band plays a free show today at 5 p.m. as part of the Blue Light Lime Concert Series at Star Plaza, just across the street from PlayhouseSquare.
