Broadzilla

With Missile Toe and the Betty Fords. Friday, July 23, at the Lime Spider, Akron.

Broadzilla
  • Broadzilla
Broadzilla's motto includes the phrase, "Jam out with your clam out." On one of their signature tunes, "Burn Baby Burn," they feature the brassy adage, "I wouldn't piss down your throat if your lungs were on fire." Obviously, the all-female lineup is not here to be treated like eye candy; as their name implies, these chicks eat oglers alive.

After the band won numerous awards in its hometown of Detroit and on music websites, XM Satellite picked up some of Broadzilla's music for its "Unsigned Bands" channel. With songs like "Diamond Sex Goddess," they don't deny their sex appeal. But these are hardworking women, still touring in support of their 2001 release, Lady Luck. Yeah, the song structures are repetitive, but Rachel May's comical lyrics and the band's harmonies shatter monotony with furious style. Screeching, screaming, and shouting their way into eardrums, Broadzilla doesn't take its playing lightly. Nor does it play lightly. -- Melody Caraballo Broadzilla, with Missile Toe and the Betty Fords. Friday, July 23, at the Lime Spider, Akron.
