“This is for the homies that been down since day one,” Brownbird Rudy Relic explains, opening his latest album, Chicano Dynamite. An earlier album, Anti-Stereo Acoustic Holler Blues, might be a better descriptor for the type of jump-up-and-dance music Relic is throwing down. Throughout his tenure, he’s offered the world of blues a testament to its own power. "I think of one person before getting on stage: Charley Patton,” he says. “If I had a blues spirit animal, it would be him. I don't feel so much as he's watching me as I am watching him.” The music has always been a conduit to the greater force of history and culture. His latest album, apart from being just a terrific collection of music, embodies that demand. Forgotten Souls of Antiquity and Blackgrass Baptism open the gig. (Sandy)
