Bushwalla/Black & Broke

When: Mon., Oct. 6, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $15
Cleveland-born Bushwalla is embarking on something he’s never done before. While he hasn’t released anything in over four years, his latest tour “will tie in comedy, circus, magic, juggling and digital art into his multi-faceted show,” according to his press kit. His background in theater arts and working as a NYC street performer certainly sounds promising. Songs like “I Raise Up” and “The Man Who Invented the Sky” fuse funky hip-hop and acoustic with random bouts of freestyle. The result is downright catchy and danceable. “Ghetto Blaster” offers a charming, acoustic love song with limerick-style lyrics, while “Fall through Glass” is a study in old-school rap with soulful horns and a disco beat. This guy is as versatile as he’s fun, and tonight’s show promises some funky fun. (Trenholme)
