Bustin' Celtics

Ireland meets Scotland in annual song-and-dance props to the Emerald Isle.

To help prepare for this year's St. Paddy's Day debauchery, the Ireland-based Chieftains make their annual trek to Playhouse Square tonight on their rousing Celtic-Scottish Connection 2008 Tour. And after 43 albums and 34 tours, the Irishmen are finally including a trio of Scots to join the musical revelry. There's singer Alyth McCormack, who's accompanied by piano-man Brian Mcalpine and fiddler Jonny Hardie. Chieftain tin-whistler Paddy Moloney jokes that they extended the invite because the Irish gave the bagpipes to the Scottish in the first place. The concert starts at 7:30 tonight at the Palace Theatre, 1501 Euclid Avenue. Tickets are $10 to $45. Call 216-241-6000 or visit www.playhousesquare.org.
