CD Review: Burning Down Broadway

Los Gatos (self-released)

burningdownbroadway.com

You could make the argument that this hard rock foursome might sound too commercial on its fourth album. These guys prefer singing to screaming and aren't afraid to embrace their sensitive sides. But then you could say the same thing about the Foo Fighters, a band that Burning Down Broadway evokes on radio friendly, hard-hitting tunes such as "Recovery," "Yeah, You" and "Hell Yeah." These guys know a good pop hook when they hear one and won't lose any credibility in the hard rock world because they keep the guitars turned up loud. They can simmer down, too, as "Work" balances husky vocals with acoustic guitars and sounds a bit like a power ballad that Daughtry might deliver. Co-produced by former SinOMatic guitarist Bryan Patrick, Los Gatos is a sharp sounding disc that shows just how much this decade-old group has evolved. — Jeff Niesel
