Celebrating the Shoreway

When: Sat., Aug. 24, 11 a.m. 2013
Price: Free
Since last year the Detroit Shoreway Community Development Organization has been diligently working on a four-year plan to improve the shoreway and the Gordon Square Arts community. May of the improvements — new retail shops, a streetscaping project, the opening of the Capitol Theatre — have come to fruition. Today, you can celebrate the 40th anniversary of the historic neighborhood with family fun activities that are part of a big birthday bash. There will be face painting for the kids and a three-on-three basketball tournament for all the ballers out there. Food trucks will be on hand. It's a celebration of community and collaboration with the hope of making the neighborhood a better place for all. The festivities start at 11 a.m. at the Michael J. Zone Recreation Center.
