Cheetah Chrome/Whiskey Daredevils/Tufted Puffins

When: Wed., Sept. 14, 8:30 p.m. 2016
Although he remains among the living Dead Boys, guitarist Cheetah Chrome once had his obituary printed in a New York newspaper following rumors of his death. Far less visible as a solo performer than the Cleveland punk group’s lead singer, Stiv Bators, Chrome has fought to keep his career alive amidst prohibitive industry politics. At first filling his post-Dead Boys days with collaborations, Chrome worked with fellow punks such as Angry Samoans' Jeff Dahl and the Replacements’ Bob Stinson before moving to Nashville to assemble a band of his own. //under former Dead Boys producer Genya Ravan, Chrome’s new entourage recorded a set of tracks that would remain unreleased due to label disagreements. The guitarist didn’t issue his first studio release until 2013’s Solo, a brief 7-song EP featuring songs new and old. Solo is a far cry from Chrome’s former punk days, instead featuring the crisp power chords of '90s college rock cast in a rugged, twang-tinged shadow. Chrome, who now serves as creative director for Nashville-based Plowboy Records, continues to tour internationally. (Bethany Kaufman)
