Cherie Currie

When: Wed., Aug. 7, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $15
A couple of years ago, former Runaways singer Cherie Currie finished recording a new studio album with Cult/Velvet Revolver/Guns N Roses drummer Matt Sorum at the helm as producer. That album still hasn’t come out yet, but Currie is taking the show on the road for a quick August tour that commences in Cleveland. With the Runaways, a band she joined when she was only 15, Curie left a significant punk rock legacy and her sneering, raspy vocals put the group in the same league as male-led punk bands like the Ramones and the Stooges. “I’m doing Runaways songs that I enjoyed singing,” she says. “I’m not singing any songs that [fellow Runaway] Joan [Jett] sang. We’re going to add a few more during this tour and I've been finding cool songs I had forgotten about.” (Jeff Niesel)
