Chimaira Christmas 7

Wednesday, December 27, at the House of Blues.

Chimaira titled its forthcoming disc Resurrection --an odd choice, considering the Strongsville metal sextet sounds stronger with each successive release. Then again, prior to recording, the band had to overcome infighting and label problems, pushing Chimaira to the brink during its 2005 tour.

"It's not that hard to say fuck you to someone and shake hands afterwards, as opposed to paying a therapist $40,000 a month, like Metallica did in Some Kind of Monster," says singer Mark Hunter with a laugh. "We reamed each other out for eight hours on the tour bus and released the demons." But there's more: Resurrection features original drummer Andols Herrick behind the kit. "Andols' return was Chimaira's saving grace," Hunter says. "I knew it would save this band."

Every Christmas, Chimaira treats its hometown fans to the tightest set list and best production values it can afford, but at this, Chimaira's seventh annual holiday blowout, the faithful will be treated to a live preview of Resurrection, which mixes the anthemic metal of the band's 2003 breakthrough, The Impossibility of Reason, with the artier, experimental edge of last year's self-titled disc. "I'm not one of those dudes who's all about self-promotion," Hunter admits, "but this time around I gotta say, this record rules!"
