Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

When: Sat., June 8, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $35-$45
Most people might think of jazz as being in a laid-back nightclub basement where someone takes a solo on a saxophone. That’s not always the case as the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra hopes to show a different side of the genre, one of upbeat tempos and foreign rhythms. Jazz isn’t the most popular genre today but for nearly 30 years the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra has been educating and promoting the art. Tonight, it closes its season with world music infusing Afro-Cuban and Middle Eastern rhythms. The orchestra also welcomes Jay Ashby, an accomplished trombonist out of New York who’s making waves in the industry for his soloist jazz work. (William Hoffman)
