Concert Photos: Squeeze at MGM Northfield Park

British New Wave outfit Squeeze played to a raucous MGM Northfield crowd Sunday night in the loudest concert that I've been to in quite some time. And, interestingly, the crowd was giving it right back to the band. Frontman Glenn Tillbrook, after the fifth tune, seemed astonished at the love and admiration pouring forth from the 1,400-or-so Labor Day weekend attendees.

Maybe they were reliving their collective youth; maybe they were just happy to have an extended three-day weekend. Whatever the case, founding members Tillbrook and Chris Difford stared at each other and even passed a few WTF raised-eyebrow looks to one another as the decibel level got increasingly louder going into the set's sixth song.

Celebrating their 50th anniversary with this latest tour, the band roared through a roster of hits, while playing many songs that achieved more success on the opposite side of the pond.

The outfit's most popular stateside tune "Tempted" came mid-set and seemed a little lackluster. Difford seemed to be phoning much of the night in, and his backing vocals weren't too enthusiastically delivered on that song. However, the band sounded great throughout the evening, accompanied by two percussionists Steve Smith and Simon Hanson.

Tillbrook's son Leon opened the night with a half hour of warmup tunes in an acoustic solo act.
