Dana Murray and Manifesto

When: Sun., April 29, 7 p.m. 2018
Price: $15
Just last week, musician/producer/educator Dana Murray dropped his heady new album, The Negro Manifesto. Murray, who also founded the Dojo Percussion and its parent company DMgroove Drum Dojo (both of which aim to reach the masses through the power of music and percussive art) blends jazz, spoken word, rap and hip-hop. "The System," one of the more esoteric songs on The Negro Manifesto, commences with noisy guitars and guttural vocals. The lyrics refer to issues of race, gender and class, and the song sounds like it belongs on the soundtrack to a Taranatino-esque sci-fi flick. (Niesel)
