Desert Isle Discs

Singer-guitarist John Petkovic of Cobra Verde offers his essential five.

1. Rolling Stones, Exile on Main Street

I'd crank this, and topless natives would bring me buckets of water, like in Tarzan movies. Except the buckets would be filled with Jack Daniel's.

2. The Velvet Underground, The Velvet Underground

"Pale Blue Eyes" would remind me of chicks I had known, and "What Goes On" would make me forget them.

3. The Stooges, Funhouse

I could kick over sandcastles to this.

4. Leonard Cohen, Songs of Leonard Cohen

It was either this or Bob Dylan's Highway 61, but I think this collection could woo native slave-girls better than 61.

5. Various Artists, No Thanks! The '70s Punk Rebellion

I could swing from trees to Suicide, the Buzzcocks, the Saints, Undertones, Gang of Four, and Blondie.
