Supremely, unendingly talented guitarist Diego Figueiredo’s latest album, Tempos Bons, starts out unassuming enough. But, as the sages will often say, the rabbit hole widens rather quickly and the listener surely find him or herself on a winding path toward... somewhere. Listen for the cheery high notes toward the conclusion of “Na Baixa do Sapateiro,” which contrast the chugging melody in a surprising way. There’s a lot of jazz and a lot of classical perspective in his playing. A little something for everyone, really. Figueiredo’s live show promises to be a hypnotic evening of dynamic playing. With the right ears, it’s sure to be borderline theatrical. Hailing from Brazil, Figueiredo doesn’t get out to Cleveland too often. If you’ve got beautiful guitar work on your radar, this a must-see show. (Eric Sandy)
