Black gays throw a weeklong coming-out party.

Parties, talent shows, and workshops await Cleveland’s Black, Gay & Proud all this week. The festival launches at 6 tonight with screenings of the gay-affirming movies How Do I Look? and Feminine Sense at the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland (3210 Euclid Avenue). Other events include August 4’s Black-at-Cha party at 7:30 p.m. at Club Lucic (1204 Old River Road) and a lunchtime symposium August 5 with motivational speaker Angela Harvey at Ford Auditorium (11100 Euclid Avenue). “Our community is very closeted,” says festival coordinator Deb Sharp. “There’s still that stigma of being gay, because it’s not widely accepted. We need to be on the same page. When you’re comfortable at home, you can be comfortable in public.”
