Durand Jones and the Indications/Toobe Fresco

Opening with icy smooth drums, Durand Jones & The Indications’ self-titled debut is a really cool notch in this decade’s soul catalogue. Rooted in Jones’ native Louisiana, his music is smoky and groovy: excellent late-night music. Jones and his band vary the tempo enough on this album to keep the listener hooked throughout, from the chugging-train rhythms of “Make a Change” to the shuffling “Now I’m Gone.” Throughout, Jones’ raw energy blasts through the speakers; we can only imagine that he’ll bring the same heat to the stage tonight. This is a show we’ve been excited about for a while. Don’t miss it! (Sandy)
