Eliot Lipp/Smoke Screen/Sammy Slims

When: Thu., Aug. 22, 8:30 p.m. 2013
Price: $10
Electronic music always goes down better with a live band. That’ll be the case tonight when Eliot Lipp performs at the Beachland Tavern. A guitarist and drummer will accompany Lipp, who uses an array of vintage collection of electronic instruments to create different eletronic sounds. On last year’s Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake, Lipp dabbles in a bit of everything. The disc starts off with the trippy electro beats of “Alive,” a tune that features symphonic synthesizers, but then Lipp embraces something funkier with “Mountain,” a tune that features squealing synthesizers and heavy bass riffs. It’s heady stuff that should benefit from the backing of a live band. (Niesel)
