Empty Bowls by the Lake Fundraiser

When: Sat., Oct. 15 2016
The local charity Empty Bowls by the Lake aims to raise both money and awareness in the fight to end hunger in our neighborhood by “creating positive and lasting changes through the arts, education, and projects that build community.” Potters, crafters, educators, students and volunteers make handcrafted bowls and local restaurants donate soup and bread. In exchange for a cash donation, guests eat a simple meal of soup and bread and keep a bowl as a reminder of all the 'empty bowls' in the world. Proceeds go to organizations that feed the hungry. This year's event will be held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion Post 211 in Avon Lake. Over 25 restaurants will participate and artists and students have made the bowls. Some of the participating schools are Lake Ridge Academy, Avon High School, Avon Lake High School and elementary schools, North Olmsted High School, Bay High, Lutheran West, and Olmsted Falls High School. The Avon Electric Orchestra has performed every year since the event began in 2012 and will once again perform. A $20 donation includes one pottery bowl and unlimited soup and bread.
