Engelbert Humperdinck

Saturday, November 17, at the State Theatre.

On his latest album, The Winding Road, soft-rock crooner Engelbert Humperdinck honors his English heritage with a collection of cover songs by Eric Clapton, John Lennon, and Sting. It's a formidable task, but Humperdinck (who was born Arnold George Dorsey) sorta pulls it off. He also gives each song his own smooth spin, so his versions of Mike & the Mechanics' "The Living Years" and James Blunt's "Goodbye My Lover" are even more sappy than the already sticky original versions you may be familiar with. Hear for yourself, when Humperdinck comes to town this week.
