Every Picture Tells a Story

In 1945, photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt snapped a shot of a sailor kissing a nurse in the middle of Times Square on VJ Day. You’ve probably seen it. The famous photo is among the 50 on display in Alfred Eisenstaedt: Father of Photojournalism, on view at Contessa Gallery. The historical black-and-white pics were taken for Life magazine, where Eisenstaedt worked for 36 years. He shot more than a million photos for the mag; more than 90 of them made the cover. The exhibit pays tribute not only to Eisenstaedt -- who left Poland right before the Nazis took over -- but also to 20th century America.
Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sundays, 12-7 p.m.; April 9-12, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Starts: April 7. Continues through April 15
