Excision/Paper Diamond

When the future generations look back at the years when dubstep rose to prominence, they’ll see Excision as the Thomas Jefferson of that movement. Breaking into the scene in 2007, Excision ushered in the all-out intense, filthy-sounding dubstep that puts hair on your chest. Along with a number of singles, EPs and remixes, his debut album X-Rated is one of the most well-known and acclaimed productions in the genre. As the founder/head of one of the most popular bass music labels, Rottun Recordings, he’s helped nourish the scene by shining light on other remarkable producers like Datsik, Liquid Stranger, Downlink, Ajapai and many others. Excision will also be remembered for his balls-to-the-wall live shows, which shoot down any and all presumptions that a DJ can’t put on a good live show. His live shows have always been ahead of the curve in terms of visual production; his last tour premiered his unique stage titled “X Vision.” This year, he’ll be topping that with a brand new stage production, “The Executioner,” which, in laymen’s terms, will be as if Excision was DJing inside of a Michael Bay movie. And just like last year’s tour, he’ll be armed with a 100,000-watt soundsystem and attempt to literally bring the house down with an onslaught of bass. Either bring some earplugs or schedule a doctor’s appointment the morning after to get a note regarding your temporary deafness; you’ll need it. (Sam Mendez)

2366 West 11th St., Cleveland

This Tremont coffee joint feels like a blast from the past. With a wood-paneled interior, dim-lighting and wooden furniture, the space gives you the feeling of being in an Enlightenment-era French salon. Along with fine coffees, it offers a large selection of bakery and food options, including chocolate and croissants.
