Walk, ride, or roll into today’s fourth annual Feet on Fleet Family Festival in Slavic Village, where you’ll find music, activities, public art, and tours of the historic neighborhood. More than three miles of streets will be open to pedestrians, including parts of Fleet, East 65th, and the Morgana Run Trail. “The whole idea is to get the community to re-envision their streets,” says coordinator Jody Orlovick. “We want to fill them with as many active and interactive things as possible.” That includes line dancing, hula hooping, roller-skating, skateboarding, and guided bike tours, among other activities. Today’s celebration was inspired by similar community-building events in Bogota, Columbia. Those regularly scheduled street fests, called cyclovia, have been credited with “changing cities into safer and more vibrant areas,” Orlovick says. The free festivities continue from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, check out the Slavic Village website.
