Film Fest Faves at CMA

When: Fri., July 29 2011
There are few topics that get more buzz these days than education. So buzz on down to the Cleveland Museum of Art tonight at 6:30 to learn more via two documentaries. Facing Forward and Girlfriends Club were both hits at this spring's Cleveland International Film Festival, and both take place in Cleveland's schools — one public and the other charter. Girlfriends Club, by Dale Omori and Diane Suchetka, screens first and documents an elementary teacher's effort to prepare a group of inner-city fifth-grade girls to attend a formal tea. Laura Paglin's Facing Forward follows, charting one young man's quest for academic success at a charter school. Stick around after the double feature for Q&As with the filmmakers. The regular CMA screening price of $9 gets you into both flicks, which will be shown in the museum's Gartner Auditorium at 11150 East Blvd. Learn more at clevelandart.org or call 216-421-7340. — Munnell
