One of the few directly anti-Nazi Hollywood films released before American entry into WWII, this story of Hitler's rise to power as seen through the microcosm of one German family was such a bold revelation of Nazi brutality that it prompted propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels to ban all MGM movies in Germany. The film stars Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. Museum Director of Education and Public Programs Jeffery Allen leads a post-viewing discussion. Program includes admission to the Maltz Museum, so arrive early to see the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum exhibition, State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda.
