Flickering Sky

When: Sat., Oct. 15 2016
Andrea Joki’s Flickering Sky exhibition at 2731 Prospect showcases a new, previously unseen collection of paintings on canvas and works on paper. These new works were created during a recent artist’s residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts, a former army barracks located across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Instead of flying, Joki drove from Cleveland to California and back to Cleveland for her residency. These solo, cross-country road trips allowed Joki to observe changes in weather and landscape, and gave her plenty of time to contemplate and reflect. The exhibition’s title refers to the work as a collection of signs in flux, “like a flickering sky telling us something is coming.” Learn more from the artist herself during a free, public talk in the gallery at 2 p.m. today. A closing reception will follow the talk. (Usmani)
