Fluid Forms & Fleshy Coats

When: Fri., March 18 2011

As part of tonight's Third Friday festivities at the 78th Street Studios, you can drop by Legation, a Gallery from 5 to 11 p.m. for the opening of Fluid Forms & Fleshy Coats, an exhibition by six female sculptors and installation artists from Northeast Ohio colleges. Co-curated by gallery owner Hilary Aurand and her mentor, Kent State University sculptor Isabel Farnsworth, the exhibition explores altered realities by way of objects affected by everyday abrasion, invasion, and imagination. For instance, artist Carey McDougall drapes Shaker furniture with evidences of unromantic daily life; sculptor Susan McClelland creates works that meditate on the persistence of identity; and in pieces like "Roost," Farnsworth explores the thoughts that settle in our consciousness like little birds. Starting at 9 p.m., local musician Ashley Brooke Toussant will perform too. The exhibition continues through April 8 at 1300 D West 78th St. For more information, call 216-650-4201 or go to legationagallery.com. — Joseph Clark
